The 62nd annual conference of the Conflict Research Society (CRS), held from 17 to 19 September at the University of Kent (Canterbury), featured a Ukrainian panel for the first time. It began with a symbolic moment of silence at 9:00 am as an example of peacebuilding practice and continued with presentations of research by Dr. Tetyana Kyseleva, Dr. Tetyana Kalenichenko and Elizaveta Rekhtman.

Ukrainian Community of Dalogue Practitioners was represented by Tetyana Kalenichenko. She presented the academic article "Fighting for Peace", co-authored with Dr. Cedric de Koning (Norwegian Institute of International Affairs), Marko Lehti (Tampere Peace Research Institute) and Denys Brylyov (Dialogue in Action, Ukraine / Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient).

This is a joint work of academic conflict researchers and Ukrainian practitioners who are trying to rethink the theoretical vision of peacebuilding as such ,” Tetiana emphasized. “ When most theories assume a civil war context, we need to find variable formats for researching and understanding events in Ukraine. That is why we are happy to collaborate with Cedric and Marko, testing the theory of adaptive peace and agonistic peacebuilding .

Adaptive peace is an approach that allows for more flexible planning of peacemaking actions and checks each time whether good intentions bring the expected result. One example from practice is the long-term dialogue between Orthodox communities. It shows that even complex disputes can be gradually transformed into constructive and peaceful solutions without violence.

We are sincerely glad that for the first time, an entirely Ukrainian panel has spoken on the international CRS platform - this paves the way for the further development of Ukrainian research and its public presentation at the global level.
