The Ukrainian Community of Dialogue Practitioners welcomes a landmark event for our entire professional field — the presentation and implementation of the “Methodology for Evaluating Facilitated Dialogue.” This development is the result of a long discussion about what exactly constitutes the effectiveness of dialogue and how to measure its impact on social processes.

The approval of the methodology is a step towards building an evidence-based approach in the field of conflict resolution and transformation.

  • The methodology provides clear tools for assessing the quality of the process itself, its initial results, and its long-term impact. This allows professionals to adjust their interventions, making them more meaningful and effective.

  • In times of high social tension, dialogue becomes a tool for strengthening cohesion. The presence of a transparent evaluation system guarantees to communities, organizations and institutions that dialogue processes are professional, ethical and aimed at real problem-solving.

  • It is a clear reporting and analysis framework that confirms the effectiveness of investments in peacebuilding and social resilience.

Ukrainian experts Olga Krasovska and Tetyana Kiselyova worked on a methodology and practical guidance on how to evaluate dialogues facilitated by professional facilitators in Ukraine at different levels. Of particular value is the fact that the Methodology was developed directly by practitioners for practitioners. We are proud that the working group included participants from our Community, which was joined by Svitlana Petrova, Olena Horova, Iryna Eigelson, Tetyana Kalenichenko, Olena Kopina, Inna Tereshchenko, Maksym Ieligulashvili. Their participation ensured that the document met the real needs of the Ukrainian context - from work in small communities to nationwide initiatives.

Facilitated dialogue is used as a tool to help representatives of different groups to reduce tensions in relationships, clarify differences of opinion, and thus restore communication and make problem-solving possible. It can be very helpful in strengthening social cohesion in society, as well as in the process of designing and implementing reforms. To enhance the effectiveness of dialogue efforts and create evidence-based arguments in favor of this approach, the OSCE Support Programme to Ukraine supported the efforts of Ukrainian practitioners in developing a methodology for evaluating facilitated dialogue.

The methodology offers a comprehensive approach, including both theoretical guidelines and ready-to-adapt tools (questionnaires, assessment criteria). It focuses on three levels: the quality of the process, the achievement of initial agreements, and the sustainability of changes in relations between groups.

We express our deep gratitude to our partners, the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, and all colleagues whose intellectual contribution made this document possible.

We invite Community members and fellow professionals to actively study and implement the methodology in their professional activities. Together, we create standards that work for the future of Ukraine.
